After a string of four wins, the Falcon Falcons's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They suffered a tough 79-58 defeat at the hands of Mesa Ridge. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Eric Graham, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. The contest was Graham's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Aiden Wood, who scored 14 points.
Falcon struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Mesa Ridge racked up 22 assists.
Leading Mesa Ridge to victory were Bryce Riehl and Tevin Riehl. Riehl scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and five steals, while Riehl dropped a double-double on 29 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Riehl pulled down eight or more rebounds. Tanner Widic was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six assists.
Falcon's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-2. As for Mesa Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 5-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Falcon will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Rampart at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Mesa Ridge will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lewis-Palmer at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Lewis-Palmer knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matchups -- so hopefully Mesa Ridge likes a good challenge.
