The Pace Academy Knights stacked a 13th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mt. Zion 80-39 at home. Winning may never get old, but Pace Academy sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Pace Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyle Greene led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six assists and four steals. Greene is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Chandler Bing, who scored 13 points along with five assists and two steals.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaki Bell, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 38.5% of Mt. Zion's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Devante Burgest, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Pace Academy is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. As for Mt. Zion, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.
Pace Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against McDonough at 7:00 p.m. on January 27th. McDonough is on a six-game streak of home wins, Pace Academy a nine-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Mt. Zion will take on Hampton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hampton is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
