Liam Monahan tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brody Enos, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aidan Ray, who went 2-for-3 with three runs.
Meanwhile, Mt. Hope came up short against Cranston West on Monday, falling 14-3.
Trace Dubois made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Brian Abbruzzi, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Cumberland pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mt. Hope, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-14.
Mt. Hope's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cumberland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. It's a different story for Mt. Hope, though, as they've only averaged .237. Will they be able to contain Cumberland's hitters?
Cumberland took their win against Mt. Hope when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 21-1 score. Will the Clippers repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
