Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kouts). They blew past the Winamac Warriors 19-0 on Monday. The Mustangs & Fillies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by nine runs or more this season.
Eli Harper and Landon Garrett made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Harper pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Garrett didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Harper went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Garrett went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Harper has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Kouts got a massive performance out of Billy Miller, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Miller a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Finney, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Kouts always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .609. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Winamac only posted an OBP of .167.
Kouts has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Winamac, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season.
Kouts will challenge Marquette Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blazers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Mustangs & Fillies surely won't give up without a fight. As for Winamac, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 3-2 loss against Delphi Community on the 13th.
