Baseball Recap: Newark Academy Wins Going Away Against Bloomfield

Newark Academy won against Bloomfield on Friday with nine runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Minutemen put the hurt on the Bengals with a sharp 9-2 victory. Considering the Minutemen have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Caleb Epstein made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Epstein was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Jared Levine was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Carson DeVirgillio was another key player, earning two runs and two stolen bases.

Newark Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bloomfield, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

Looking ahead, Newark Academy is taking a road trip to face off against Gill St. Bernard's at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bloomfield, they will be taking part in a tournament against Payne Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Bengals' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
