The Lexington Yellowjackets lost against the Davie War Eagles last Tuesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Lexington took a serious blow against Davie, falling 69-27. While losing is never fun, Lexington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 349th, while Davie is ranked 51st).
Tay Bostic and Jordyn Dearmon certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Bostic scored 12 points, while Dearmon scored 11 points. Dearmon scored a full 40.7% of Lexington's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Davie found their leader in underclassman Avarie Martin, who scored 22 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Martin has scored at least 25% of Davie's points. Peyton Spaugh was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 5 steals.
Lexington has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Davie, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lexington will take on Forbush at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Davie, they will be playing at home against North Davidson at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully North Davidson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Thursday.
