North Brunswick and South Brunswick are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. North Brunswick will be playing in front of their home fans against South Brunswick at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
North Brunswick barely beat West Brunswick the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. North Brunswick was the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over West Brunswick on Friday. The win was familiar territory for the Scorpions, who have now won three contests in a row.
Shanley Hunt spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Avia Dlouhy was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jada Thomas, who scored a run while going 4-for-5.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Brunswick). They put the hurt on Dixon with a sharp 11-1 victory on Monday. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
South Brunswick also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and she was also dialed-in: Kina Davis gave up a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. Davis has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, South Brunswick got a big performance out of Tabby Martin, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. TyiAnna Cummings was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
South Brunswick hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dixon struck out 12 times.
South Brunswick pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for North Brunswick, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
South Brunswick's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: North Brunswick has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. It's a different story for South Brunswick, though, as they've only averaged .364. Will they be able to contain North Brunswick's hitters?
North Brunswick couldn't quite finish off South Brunswick in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 2-0. Will North Brunswick have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
