Pasco has gone a perfect 3-0 against Lake Gibson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Pasco Pirates will look to defend their home field against the Lake Gibson Braves at 7:00 p.m. Pasco's pitching crew has only allowed 1.1 runs per game this season, so Lake Gibson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Last Friday, Pasco earned a 5-1 victory over Hudson. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Cobras recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Jayce Rollins made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Rollins wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Boomer Newton, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake Gibson). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Tenoroc a 27-0 shutout on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Like Pasco, Lake Gibson also got a great game from a two-way player: Mark Simpson. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Simpson also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lake Gibson is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-7 otherwise. Simpson was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Bryant, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Dalton Cone was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Lake Gibson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.4.
Lake Gibson's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-8. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pasco, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Pasco took their win against Lake Gibson when the teams last played back in February by a conclusive 9-0. Does Pasco have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lake Gibson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
