The Craigmont Chiefs will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Overton Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Craigmont can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They snuck past Hillcrest with a 46-41 win.
Meanwhile, Overton came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Mitchell 64-8 at home. Given Overton's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Mitchell is ranked 277th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Overton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alexandria Clemmons, who scored 19 points along with 7 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Clemmons has scored at least 25% of Overton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kierra Baldwin, who scored 16 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals.
The losses dropped Craigmont to 1-3 and Hillcrest to 3-3.
Things could have been worse for Craigmont, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 42-25 loss to Overton in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Can Craigmont avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
