Tess Cozza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with six RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gianna Roth, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. She is on a roll when it comes to doubles, as she's now hit two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Gianna Dasenbrook, who went 4-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 11 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nordonia). They blew past Stow-Munroe Falls 17-3 on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Knights as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.
Nordonia also got a great performance from Haylie Lambes as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Nordonia let Maddie Nyce and Larken Koran run wild. Nyce went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Koran went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Haydn Paul was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights' win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.9 runs over those games. As for Nordonia, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.
Nordonia's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Brecksville-Broadview Heights has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 13.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Nordonia, though, as they've been averaging 12.3 hits. Given Brecksville-Broadview Heights' sizable advantage in that area, the Knights will need to find a way to close that gap.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights beat Nordonia 10-7 in their previous matchup on April 9th. Do the Bees have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
