The Canton Tigers's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Holmes County Central Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Canton was able to grind out a solid win over Gentry, taking the game 41-31. Given Canton's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Gentry is ranked 97th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Canton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kylei Rogers, who scored ten points along with six steals. Rogers has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Journee Brown was another key contributor, scoring four points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Holmes County Central came tearing into Wednesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Greenville by a score of 41-33.
DeKyra Mitchell continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of I'Xana Winters, who scored 11 points.
Canton's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-3. As for Holmes County Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.
Canton came up short against Holmes County Central when the teams last played back in January, falling 38-32. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mitchell, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
