After two games on the road, Mahtomedi is heading back home. They will take on the Two Rivers Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mahtomedi knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Two Rivers likes a good challenge.
Mahtomedi pushed their score all the way to 80 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 81-80 to St. Peter. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Tuesday (69), Mahtomedi still had to take the loss.
Two Rivers has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to Hill-Murray at home by a decisive 60-43 margin on Friday.
The losing side was boosted by Gabi Kirchner, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. She hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Amundson, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Mahtomedi's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-5. As for Two Rivers, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Mahtomedi against Two Rivers in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 73-32 win. Will Mahtomedi repeat their success, or does Two Rivers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
