Basketball Recap: Rome's Run of Six Straight Wins Now Over

After a string of six wins, Rome's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of the Alexander Cougars by a score of 46-43. The Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.

Alexander found their leader in sophomore Nimah Ibidunni, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 boards. That's the most boards Ibidunni has posted since back in December of 2023. Isabella Italiano was another key player, going 5 of 11 on her way to 11 points and six assists.

Rome's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-2. As for Alexander, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Rome will take on New Manchester in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. New Manchester will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Rome surely won't give up without a fight. Alexander and East Paulding will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Alexander is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.7 points per game this season.
