Baseball Recap: Saint Ignatius College Prep Find Success

While Saint Ignatius College Prep's victory against Aurora Central Catholic wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolfpack had just enough and edged out the Chargers 4-3 on Friday. While the Wolfpack didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-24), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Saint Ignatius College Prep got a great performance from Alec McAfee as he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. What's more, McAfee posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alec Gunderson, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Joseph Toney also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Saint Ignatius College Prep's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Aurora Central Catholic, they dropped their record down to 8-5 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Saint Ignatius College Prep and Aurora Central Catholic will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Wolfpack will challenge rival St. Laurence at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Aurora Central Catholic is set to face off against their familiar foe Montini Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
