Denver South suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were beaten by Denver East 80-48. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Denver South has suffered against Denver East since February 20, 2015.
Despite their defeat, Denver South saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ka'Niya (KJ) Anderson, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four blocks, was perhaps the best of all. Anderson has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. Asha Daniels was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, George Washington entered their tilt with Far Northeast W with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. George Washington claimed a resounding 57-15 victory over Far Northeast W on the road. Given George Washington's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Far Northeast W is ranked 280th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Denver South's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for George Washington, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-10 record this season.
Denver South came up short against George Washington in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 58-52. Thankfully for Denver South, Emmajo Locks (who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
