The Taylor County Bulldogs had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 42-38 W over Wakulla on Thursday. The win was just what Taylor County needed coming off of a 79-12 loss in their prior matchup.
Taylor County found their leader in underclassman Irene Meler, who scored 18 points. That's the first time this season that Meler scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was LeeAsia Johnson, who scored ten points.
Wakulla lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kyendra Thomas, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and five steals. That was a full 39.5% of Wakulla's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amariyah Donaldson, who scored six points along with three blocks.
Taylor County's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-8. As for Wakulla, they bumped their record down to 2-8 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Taylor County won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Aucilla Christian at 4:30 p.m. on January 12th. Hopefully Aucilla Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday. Wakulla won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Jefferson County at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Jefferson County's defense has only allowed 28.7 points per game this season, so Wakulla's offense will have their work cut out for them.
