Softball Recap: Southwestern Extends Winning Streak to Three

Southwestern extended their winning streak to three on Monday, bumping their season record up to 16-8 in the process. They came out on top against the Garrard County Golden Lions by a score of 8-5. The Warriors have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Golden Lions, too.

Southwestern got a great performance from Jayla Singleton as she struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.

At the plate, Kylie Dalton was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoie Lowery, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

As for Garrard County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-15 record this season. Their loss continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

On Garrard County's side, Riley Murphy and Braylei Wade stepped up to the plate in a big way. Murphy went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run, while Wade got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Southwestern will head out on the road to face off against Clinton County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. Garrard County has already played their next matchup (against Casey County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
