Strawberry Crest and Wharton are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. Strawberry Crest will take on Wharton at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Strawberry Crest's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Lennard as Strawberry Crest made off with an 8-0 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Chargers, who have now won four matches in a row.
The team relied heavily on Brisen Tweedy, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was Reuben Vasquez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Strawberry Crest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lennard only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, Wharton came tearing into Saturday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Falcons.
Wharton also got a great performance from Conner Evans as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Furthermore, Evans didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February.
On the hitting side, Alex Johnstone was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Jeremiah Brown also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Wharton pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Strawberry Crest, their record is now 16-4.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Strawberry Crest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. However, it's not like Wharton struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Strawberry Crest couldn't quite get it done against Wharton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can Strawberry Crest avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
