4A Region II District 10 recap November 5, 2013
Newman Smith moved up to 633 from 667 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region II District 10. The Trojans climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Highland Park 52-28.
The Scots added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Newman Smith, 52-28. The victory was the eighth in a row for Highland Park.
Keby Nieto threw for 242 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 15-26 with 1 interception.
Jamal Jones was a key player and the best on defense this week as Creekview bested Terrell. He recorded 1 fumble.
Nieto and Walter Dawn Jr. gave Poteet a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Jaylon Smith also contributed to the rushing game with 79 yards on the ground.
Entering into this week's contest against the Tigers, Brooks Burgin is short just 151 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season. Accruing a total of 16 touchdowns this year, Burgin has thrown for 1,849 yards with 3 interceptions.
The Pirates' Kody Edwards is only 87 receiving yards away from breaking 1,000 receiving yards this season as he enters this week's game against the West Mesquite. So far this year, he has acheived 41 catches for 913 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Poteet takes on the Wranglers. Kody Groves' team is in first place, while West Mesquite is in third place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Pirates take on Jeff Neill's team. Poteet has allowed 164 points this season, while the Wranglers have given up 153. The Pirates allowed 10 points last week as they defeated North Forney.
Poteet took down the Falcons 55-10 last week, the largest margin of any game. Nieto during the win.
