The Higley Knights won the last time they faced the Mountain Pointe Pride, and things went their way on Thursday too. Higley came out on top against the Pride by a score of 58-46. Given Higley's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Pride are ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Higley found their leader in underclassman Cadence Murdough, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 20 rebounds. Murdough is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Claire Greenwade was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with five assists.
Several Pride players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alexis Emerson-Berryhill, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Emerson-Berryhill hasn't dropped below three steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Nia Rowe, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Higley's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-7. As for Mountain Pointe, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-21.
Higley and the Saints will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Notre Dame Prep will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak. As for Mountain Pointe, they will play host again and welcome the Colts, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Casteel focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Monday.
