The Campbell County Camels's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Viborg/Hurley Cougars at 8:00 a.m. on December 28th. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Thursday, Campbell County came up short against Chatfield and fell 49-41. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Campbell County came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked third in Wyoming, while Chatfield is ranked 56th in Colorado).
Despite the loss, Campbell County had strong showings from Lauren Kuhbacher, who scored eight points along with 18 rebounds and three steals, and Kaylie Neary, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. The matchup was Neary's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Onna Castellanos, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Campbell County were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Viborg/Hurley unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 55-45 to Elk Point-Jefferson. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Viborg/Hurley has scored all season.
Campbell County's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Viborg/Hurley, their defeat ended a eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-2.
Campbell County barely slipped by Viborg/Hurley in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, winning 56-55. Does Campbell County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Viborg/Hurley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
