The Kankakee Kays typically have all the answers at home, but on Tuesday the Thornton Wildcats proved too difficult a challenge. They secured a 59-54 W over the Kays. Given Thornton's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while the Kays are ranked 32nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Thornton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Morez Johnson out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Chase Abraham, who scored 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Thornton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season. As for Kankakee, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Thornton will take on the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
