Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Red Cloud). They walked away with a 63-51 win over the Superior Wildcats on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Warriors sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
It was another big night for Gage Ely, who dropped a double-double on 38 points and ten boards. He has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Carlos Horne, who posted four points and 11 rebounds.
Red Cloud was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Superior only posted seven assists.
Despite the loss, Superior still got an impressive performance from Dayne Clark, who scored 26 points and six boards. Clark continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas M. Mathis, who had six points and five rebounds.
Red Cloud's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Superior, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.
Red Cloud will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Heartland Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. Red Cloud knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Heartland Lutheran likes a good challenge. As for Superior, they will head out on the road to square off against Deshler at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Deshler is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.5 points per game this season.
