The Morton Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Columbia Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Morton's four-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They came out on top against Forest by a score of 35-28. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but Morton was the better team in the second half.
Zach Ealy was on fire: he threw for 311 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes, and also rushed for 178 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. Ealy was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 59 yards. Xavier McDonald also helped out with an impressive 166 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Columbia put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 34-21 victory over Purvis. Given Columbia's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Purvis is ranked 117th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Their wins bumped Morton to 4-6 and Columbia to 10-0.
Morton was taken down by Columbia 42-7 in their previous meeting back in November of 2018. Thankfully for Morton, Omar Johnson (who rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
