Deer Creek-Mackinaw hasn't had much luck against Tremont recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Chiefs will square off against the Turks at 4:30 p.m. Deer Creek-Mackinaw is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Fisher by a score of 4-1.
Mackenzie Knowles spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Deer Creek-Mackinaw let Byrkleigh Kraft and Lexi Cottingham run wild. Kraft went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Cottingham went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Tremont fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Tri-Valley on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 6-5. The Turks' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Tremont also let their pitcher toss all 8.1 innings and she was also dialed-in: Maddie Feagin gave up four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. Feagin has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lilly Elston made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Ivy Stuber was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Tremont, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw was able to grind out a solid win over Tremont when the teams last played back in March, winning 10-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chiefs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
