James Monroe has been on the road for three straight, but on Monday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Greenbrier East Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully James Monroe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday.
Even though Narrows scored an imposing 56 points, James Monroe still came out on top. James Monroe took their contest against Narrows 65-56.
James Monroe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mary Beth Meadows led the charge by scoring 19 points along with 7 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Meadows has scored at least 25% of James Monroe's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Dunlap, who scored 13 points along with 6 steals.
Meanwhile, Greenbrier East was the victim of a tough 66-46 defeat at the hands of George Washington on Monday.
The losses dropped James Monroe to 2-2 and Narrows to 0-3.
James Monroe was able to grind out a solid win over Greenbrier East in their previous matchup back in February, winning 62-52. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Greenbrier East's Cadence Stewart, who scored 21 points along with 8 rebounds. Now that she won't be playing on Monday, will it be that much easier for James Monroe to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
