York Suburban hasn't had much luck against Susquehannock recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Trojans will take on the Warriors at 4:15 p.m. York Suburban has given up an average of 11.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
York Suburban is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 12th straight game on Wednesday. They lost 14-4 to Kennard-Dale.
York Suburban saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava King, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Molly Murray also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Susquehannock ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Eastern York 13-12. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Warriors, who until this matchup were averaging 3.85 runs allowed.
Ella Wetzel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and nine unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-6 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Callie Shue was incredible, going 1-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sofia Deffendall, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Susquehannock is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for York Suburban, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.
York Suburban might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Susquehannock when the teams last played on April 1st. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
