The California Trojans had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 62-6 victory over Bethlehem Center. The result was nothing new for California, who have now won eight contests by 27 points or more so far this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead California to victory, but perhaps none more so than Spencer Petrucci, who rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Petrucci is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Layhue, who rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
California's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Christian Ross and his two sacks.
California's victory was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Charleroi and 1-8 Frazier (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34.2% over those games). As for Bethlehem Center, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.
California will head out on the road to face off against Bentworth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bentworth is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. As for Bethlehem Center, they will be playing at home against Monessen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Pennsylvania (Monessen is ranked 463rd, while Bethlehem Center is ranked 477th).
