Softball Recap: Calvert Wins Going Away Against Columbian

Calvert lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Columbian, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's game. The Senecas put the hurt on the Tornadoes with a sharp 19-1 win on Monday. The Senecas might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Addison King was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Gracie Miller was a standout: she fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Eilrich, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.

Calvert hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive contests.

Calvert's victory bumped their record up to 20-4. As for Columbian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-17 record this season.

Calvert will challenge Ayersville at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pilots will roll in looking for their 17th straight win, something the Senecas surely won't give up without a fight. Columbian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
