McClain extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 7-11. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 13-11 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hillsboro Indians. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Tigers have suffered since March 27, 2025.
Cami Gall was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Gall was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.
Gall wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brie Cummins, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another was Brylee Douglas, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
As for Hillsboro, their win bumped their record up to 4-14. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against McClain since April 29, 2022.
On Hillsboro's side, Peyton Spurlock spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and eight unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks. Spurlock has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Addley Miller was a standout: she went 4-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Rilynn Swisshelm was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs and two RBI.
While McClain had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
