The Rio Hondo Prep Kares and the Muir Mustangs, after both having extra time off, will shake off the rust and duke it out at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Rio Hondo Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
If Rio Hondo Prep beats Muir with ten runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Kares blew past Chadwick 10-0 last Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Kares.
The team relied heavily on JANNA TAFLINGER, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Rio Hondo Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chadwick only posted a batting average of .217.
Meanwhile, Muir hadn't done well against Burroughs recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way two weeks ago. The Mustangs skirted past the Bears 8-6.
Sidney Sims was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Dailey Mitchell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Gigi Butler was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Rio Hondo Prep's record now sits at 15-6. As for Muir, their record is now 14-10.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rio Hondo Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Muir struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
