After flying high against the Grovetown Warriors last Saturday, the South Effingham Mustangs came back down to earth. South Effingham received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 59-45 to Brunswick. While losing is never fun, South Effingham can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 266th, while Brunswick is ranked 114th).
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Elena Hairston, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Hayden Johanson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Brunswick's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jermiyah Ramsey, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Ramsey has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shania Jones, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
South Effingham's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-13. As for Brunswick, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-8.
South Effingham will head out on the road to face off against Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Brunswick knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully South Effingham likes a good challenge. As for Brunswick, they will be playing at home against South Effingham at 6:00 p.m.
