Basketball Recap: Kate Mocho Key Part of a Team Effort in Jaguars Win

It was a proper cat-fight when St. Joseph Academy took on Elyria Catholic on Monday. The St. Joseph Academy Jaguars managed a 38-33 victory over the Elyria Catholic Panthers. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Jaguars also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

St. Joseph Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kate Mocho, who posted 13 points and three steals. Mocho has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Morgan Wearsch, who had nine points in addition to five boards and three steals.

St. Joseph Academy now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Elyria Catholic, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3.

St. Joseph Academy and Elyria Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. St. Joseph Academy (ranked 108th) will meet Hathaway Brown (ranked 495th) at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Elyria Catholic (ranked 79th) will meet Holy Name (ranked 323rd) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
