New Bern (N.C.) snapped
Scotland (Laurinburg, N.C.)'s 11-game winning streak, with a 23-6 victory on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Josh Taylor touchdown run in the first quarter, the Bears led 9-6 at the half.
New Bern expanded its lead to 10 points entering the fourth quarter. NB scored once in the quarter on a Taylor touchdown run.
With the win the Bears extended their winning streak to 14 games. New Bern defeated the Wildcats 49-35 last week.
NB's standout player in the win was Taylor. The senior quarterback ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 15 touchdowns on the season.
Jaylend Ratliffe made a difference for the Fighting Scots. The sophomore quarterback ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 13 touchdowns on the season.
Scotland's lone touchdown came on a 33-yard run by Ratliffe in the second quarter.
The Bears went into the matchup giving up only 14.2 points per game. SHS's six points were well below its season average of 32.3 per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Laurinburg school took, 61-28.
The defeat comes as a step back for Scotland, which notched a 35-28 victory over E.E. Smith in its previous outing.
