Jacey Reed put in work no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Sally Alberson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Jessica Jagar was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Jay, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They came out on top against West Florida by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday.
Layna Lowry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carleigh Baker, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Kylei Martinez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Jay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Jay pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Gulf Breeze, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.
Gulf Breeze couldn't quite get it done against Jay when the teams last played back in March as they fell 5-2. Will the Dolphins have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
