Last Thursday, Gloucester City took their match at home with ease, bagging a 78-33 victory over Gateway Regional. Given Gloucester City's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Gateway Regional is ranked 355th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gloucester City's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ryan James, who scored 14 points. The match was James' third in a row with at least ten points. Michael Light was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Millville scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 70-53 win over Vineland. That looming 70-53 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Millville yet this season.
Gloucester City's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points per game. As for Millville, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2.
