Basketball Recap: Madison Borjas Key Part of a Team Effort in Mustangs Win

McAllen Memorial won the last time they faced Sharyland and things went their way on Tuesday too. The McAllen Memorial Mustangs enjoyed a cozy 49-34 win over the Sharyland Rattlers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

McAllen Memorial's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madison Borjas, who posted 14 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Borjas a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Ann Mabadeje, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards.

McAllen Memorial smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

Several Rattlers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alyssa Ramirez, who had 13 points. Ramirez is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Alisela Rangel was another key player, putting up six points and eight rebounds.

McAllen Memorial's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-9. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.3 points per game. As for Sharyland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-10.

McAllen Memorial will be playing in front of their home fans against Rowe at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sharyland, they are taking a road trip to challenge McAllen at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sharyland is facing McAllen at the right time seeing as McAllen is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
