Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to post nine more assists than your opponent, a fact the Orange Panthers proved on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 55-41 win over Garner.
Leading Orange to victory were Maura McMurtry and Evelyn George. McMurtry scored 17 points along with 8 assists and 5 rebounds, while George scored 19 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Marshea Byrd, who scored 5 points along with 8 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Garner lost, one person who can't be blamed is Olivia Jacobs. Despite the final result, she scored 28 points along with 8 steals and 3 blocks. The matchup was Jacobs' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sumayah Jones, who scored 6 points along with 5 rebounds.
Orange now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Garner, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Orange will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against East Chapel Hill at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully East Chapel Hill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday. As for Garner, they will head out on the road to face off against Middle Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
