Freeman hasn't had much luck against Godwin recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mavericks will take on the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Freeman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Mechanicsville hit Freeman with a four-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mavericks fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 7-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Kayleigh Perks was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Godwin put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Maggie Walker get on the board and left with a 22-0 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.
Delilah Smith and Katelyn Hubley made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Smith pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Hubley tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Smith got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI, while Hubley got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Hubley has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Bella Ross was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Adelynn Collins, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Godwin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Godwin pushed their record up to 12-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Freeman, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Freeman might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Godwin in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Mavericks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
