Sylmar is 9-1 against San Fernando since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Sylmar Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the San Fernando Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Hopefully Sylmar focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
Sylmar unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak. They fell just short of Roosevelt by a score of 55-52. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Sylmar has suffered yet this season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Joseph Dickson, Jr, who scored 13 points along with five steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Nathan Lee, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, San Fernando had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Panorama 57-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
San Fernando got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaiah Cabrera out in front who scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Victor Marin, who scored 13 points.
Sylmar's loss dropped their record down to 10-13. As for San Fernando, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-12.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Sylmar hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 65.5 points per game. It's a different story for San Fernando, though, as they've been averaging only 53.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Everything came up roses for Sylmar against San Fernando in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 87-38 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was San Fernando's Gavin Reyes, who scored 19 points. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Sylmar still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
