South Portland lost to Thornton Academy back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Red Riots came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 6-2. Winning may never get old, but the Red Riots sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Hudson Iacuessa made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cameron Barrett, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Jude Charltray was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
South Portland pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Thornton Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-4-1.
Coming up, South Portland will host Scarborough at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Storm's pitching crew has only allowed 0.9 runs per game this season, so the Red Riots' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Thornton Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
