Parker and Wenonah are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Parker Thundering Herd will head out on the road to face off against the Wenonah Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Parker will be strutting in after a win while Wenonah will be coming in after a loss.
Last Tuesday, Parker earned a 45-32 victory over Gadsden City. The win made it back-to-back wins for Parker.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Wenonah's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 61-50 to Minor. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Wenonah came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Minor is ranked 110th).
Despite the loss, Wenonah had strong showings from Gabrielle Blanks, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Samarian Franklin, who scored 22 points. The match was Franklin's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Jakerria Ringstaff was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 4 steals.
Parker's victory bumped their season record to 3-2 while Gadsden City's defeat dropped theirs to 2-7.
Parker skirted past Wenonah 57-54 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Parker since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
