A big part of Chaminade's victory came down to the chemistry between Sean Carnevale and his top target Sean Powers. Carnevale threw for 230 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 80% of his passes while Powers picked up 89 receiving yards and one score. Carnevale's passing game has become a key predictor of Chaminade's success: the team is 5-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise.
Chaminade didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Shaye Sykes and Luca Mastronardi. Another thorn in Archbishop Stepinac's side was Anthony Trapani, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made five total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Monsignor Farrell challenged Cardinal Hayes last Saturday. The Lions put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 38-14 win. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won six games by 22 points or more so far this season.
Monsignor Farrell's win came from a few key players Chaminade will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Bryce Moye, who threw for 235 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Kevin Gumb Jr handled things on the ground, rushing for 120 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Monsignor Farrell's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB 3.5 times. Cole Savino refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself.
Chaminade's record now sits at 7-4. As for Monsignor Farrell, their record is now 8-1.
Chaminade was able to grind out a solid victory over Monsignor Farrell in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, winning 14-7. Will the Flyers repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
