Softball Game Preview: Spring Valley Vikings vs. Midland Valley Mustangs

The Spring Valley Vikings will take on the Midland Valley Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Spring Valley will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Spring Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Ridge View 22-4 on Thursday.

Libby Lankford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Lankford was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those runs were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Spring Valley got a massive performance out of Allie Pritchard, who scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave Pritchard a new career-high. Dahlia Nora was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Spring Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Midland Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gilbert. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly five runs.

Midland Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Seabolt, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Spring Valley picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-6. As for Midland Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Spring Valley skirted past Midland Valley 7-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2019. Will Spring Valley repeat their success, or does Midland Valley has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
