Mt. Pleasant is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Loretto is on a nine-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers will take on the Loretto Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Mt. Pleasant's game was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They strolled past Hickman County with points to spare, taking the game 35-21.
Mt. Pleasant can attribute much of their success to Jakyri Mcclure, who rushed for 179 yards while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. Darien Meza got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Hickman County to a paltry 150 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Mt. Pleasant's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Hardin Hughes and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Loretto can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They blew past Waverly Central 36-15. The score was close at the half, but Loretto pulled away in the second half with 29 points.
Their wins bumped Mt. Pleasant to 8-1 and Loretto to 9-0.
Mt. Pleasant was able to grind out a solid win over Loretto in their previous matchup back in September of 2022, winning 32-21. Will Mt. Pleasant repeat their success, or does Loretto have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
