The Gardendale Rockets will head out to face off against the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Gardendale is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Gardendale blew Moody out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Moody got their revenge. The Rockets fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 2-0.
Mortimer Jordan let Springville stack six runs on them in the second inning on Saturday but luckily Mortimer Jordan prevailed anyway. The Blue Devils came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tigers, sneaking past 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blue Devils have posted against the Tigers since March 4, 2023.
Cohen Thompson made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Mortimer Jordan let John Owen Dean and Nic Maldonado run wild. Dean went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Maldonado went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Dean a new career-high. Tanner Rice was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Mortimer Jordan pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Gardendale, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Everything went Gardendale's way against Mortimer Jordan when the teams last played back in March of 2025, as Gardendale made off with a 14-6 victory. Will the Rockets repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
