The Durand Railroaders will challenge the Montrose Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Durand has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Durand is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ovid-Elsie.
Hayli Pugh made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was MaKenzie Jones, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Montrose, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They walked away with an 18-15 victory over Caro on Tuesday.
The team relied heavily on Mya Wiggins, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Emma Sjobolom was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Montrose kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.2.
Montrose is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Durand, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Durand has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Montrose struggles in that department as they've averaged .442. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Durand might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Montrose when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Railroaders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
