The Alhambra Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 65-16 loss at the hands of Shadow Ridge. While losing is never fun, Alhambra can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while Shadow Ridge is ranked 92nd).
Shadow Ridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Riley Blankenship, who scored 13 points. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. Olivia Holub was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Alhambra bumped their record down to 1-7 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Shadow Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
After both having extra time off, Alhambra and North will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. North and Alhambra are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. Shadow Ridge will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on O'Connor at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. O'Connor's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Shadow Ridge's offense will have their work cut out for Shadow Ridge.
