The Lassiter Trojans''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They suffered a tough 38-17 defeat at the hands of Pope. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lassiter in their matchups with Pope: they've now lost five in a row.
Pope can attribute much of their success to John Stuetzer, who rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also picked up 46 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Jt Way, who rushed for 118 yards.
Pope's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB seven times. Leading the way was Nick Chao and his three sacks.
Lassiter's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Pope, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lassiter will take on Sprayberry at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sprayberry presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lassiter in Georgia (Sprayberry is ranked 148th, while Lassiter is ranked 306th). As for Pope, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Johns Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Johns Creek is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
