The Springwood Wildcats can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They rang in the new year with a 73-61 victory over Abbeville Christian Academy. The victory was just what Springwood needed coming off of a 77-56 defeat in their prior match.
Springwood got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Micah Thomas out in front who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. The matchup was Thomas' 16th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Westbrook, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Abbeville Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Javarse Turner, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Turner is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jayden Buckhannon, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Abbeville Christian Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Springwood only racked up 18 assists.
Springwood's victory bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Abbeville Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
Springwood and Valiant Cross Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Valiant Cross Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Abbeville Christian Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Wiregrass at 7:00 p.m. Wiregrass is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
